I began my herbal journey as a child curious about what plants could do besides exist.
Then as a teenager i began studying from the very few resources i could find.
This was over 30 years ago.
After much self study and practice i took the Chartered Herbalists Diploma in 1996.
Following working in health food stores in Winnipeg and Halifax, i started teaching herbal medicine in Halifax in 1997 when the Maritime School of Health & Well-being hired me to create and facilitate a herbal program.
This program was a series of workshops leading to a Department of Education (name at the time) approved certificate.
At this time i also began taking steps in initiating the formation of the Herbalist Association of Nova Scotia of which i am a founding member.
When the school closed in 1998 i was pregnant with my first son and within a year we moved to the Eastern Shore.
At that time i began offering herbal workshops through Continuing Education on the shore (which was still operating out here), but when they closed their doors i began offering herb walks at my own property.
In 2001 my second son came along and with it a lot more herbal baby practice.
Following completing my Master Herbalist in 2004 on Nova Scotia Native Tree Medicine, i began offering a series of workshops on connecting to Trees.
In 2006 i began my Master's of Arts in Education looking into our relationship with the Natural World.
Following the completion of my thesis in 2008 titled Reinventing our Eco-Relationship as Natural World within the Medicine Wheel, i began offering workshops to individuals interested in examining their relationship with nature.
I have a BA (Hons) in Psychology, have completed a Registered Holistic Nutritionist diploma (2000), an online course in Eco-Psychology (2012), Herbal First Aid with 7Song (2015), courses in two body work modalities (Acupressure (1996) & Quantum Touch), many workshops with other herbalists and alternative health care providers, and i have been practicing Tai Chi for over 20 years along with meditation and Tao Yin Fa.
I am a published author of two books including Listening to Mother Earth and Father Sky: Teachings for Urban Aboriginals (2012).
In the 30 years as a herbalist, i have been spending time with plants, harvesting, formulating and medicine making.
Some personal challenges i have overcome or have managed using Earth Medicine; Chronic back pain, depression, chronic stress & burn-out, gluten sensitivity, air borne allergies and uterian hyperplasia with atypia (pre-cancerous uterus).
