Detailed description is Dane County District One EMS - Serving Black Earth and Mazomanie - Dane County, Wisconsin About Us: Dane County District One EMS was formed in 1977 when the growth of this area made it apparent that a real need existed for a service to provide emergency basic life-support, care, and transport to an advanced life-support facility.
This service was designed to provide such aid with all due care and treatment en route.
Since the beginning, volunteers have proudly staffed Rescue 28 and served its 5700 residents.
District One is comprised of six municipalities in an area of some 85 sq.
miles in the northwest section of Dane County; it includes the villages and townships of Black Earth and Mazomanie, along with sections of Berry and Vermont townships.
District One EMS is licensed and its members are trained to the highest basic level of the Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician.
Some 325 calls are responded to each year with transport to five different emergency rooms within a 25-mile radius.
Two Med Flight Helicopters from the University Hospital in Madison are available to transport the most seriously ill or injured patients.
Six appointed board members govern District One EMS, one from each municipality, and oversee the daily operations of the District Director.
