و لمن يسأل لماذا داعل سميت بهذا الأسم أم الشهداء فإنني أقول له بأن داعل قد تعرضت للقصف من قبل قوات العدو الصهيوني «بتاريخ 8/1/1973 مرت من فوق المدينة 4 من طائرات العدو الصهيوني متجهة نحو الشرق على ارتفاع متوسط، بعد فترة قصيرة عادت هذه الطائرات وانخفضت اثنتان منها لضرب المدينة بما يقارب أحد عشر صاروخاً إضافة لعدد من القنابل، ما أدى إلى استشهاد قرابة السبعين شخصاً من أبناء المدينة وتدمير عدد من المنازل، ارتفعت بعد ذلك الطائرات واتجهت نحو الغرب حيث قامت بضرب مدينة "طفس" ما أدى إلى استشهاد أربعة أشخاص من عناصر الجيش وستة من المدنيين وتدمير قرابة الأربعة منازل»..

وعن أسباب استهداف مدينة "داعل" نقول: «قبل أن تضرب المدينة بيومين، قدم إليها الرئيس الفلسطيني "ياسر عرفات" في زيارة للقوات الفدائية التي كانت موجودة في المدينة، وعندما علمت القوات الإسرائيلية بوجوده قامت بقصف المدينة ولكنه في هذه الأثناء كان قد غادرها متجها إلى "درعا"، ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه أنه بعد هذه الأحداث جاءت قوات للتحقيق من قبل مجلس الأمن واطلعت على المناطق التي قصفتها القوات الإسرائيلية، ولكن وكالمعتاد لم تتم إدانة العدو على هذه الجريمة».
