Nossa história se iniciou no dia 03 de novembro do ano de 1998, na cidade de Campo Bom, estado do Rio Grande do Sul.
Um grupo de peões e prendas desprendeu-se do CTG Campo Verde da mesma cidade e fundou uma nova entidade, o então CTG Guapos do Itapuí.

O nome “Guapos do Itapuí” surge da junção das palavras “GUAPOS” (bravo, guerreiro, bonito) e “ITAPUÍ” (de origem indígena, consta em alguns mapas antigos, como o nome do rio que banha a cidade de Campo Bom, e atualmente tem o nome de Rio dos Sinos, caracterizado pelas suas curvas sinuosas que imitam uma "serpente", que na língua indígena significa "ITAPUÍ")..
