Not everyone needs help, but for those who do, Better at Home can make a real difference.
The program offers non-medical services: things like light housekeeping, basic home and yard maintenance and unexpected “odd jobs”.
It also offers connections to other services like volunteer snow shoveling, grocery shopping and friendly visits.
Seniors, caretakers, family and friends are welcomed to call for information about a full range of other programs and services that are available locally..

Starting now, Cranbrook seniors can apply for assistance, or be referred into the program by others.
A doctor’s referral is NOT required (but is certainly welcomed)..

For most services, participants will be asked to pay on a sliding scale, based on household income.
For those in the lowest income range, Better at Home may be able to pay the entire bill.
Others may qualify for 30%, 50% or 70% subsidy..

Services will be provided by a mix of paid staff, contractors and volunteers – all of whom will have been through a thorough screening and interview process..

Better at Home is funded by the Government of British Columbia, managed by United Way of the Lower Mainland, and delivered in Cranbrook by Community Connections Society of Southeast BC.
The program will ultimately be rolled out in up to 68 communities across the province.
