Le sue coordinate geografiche sono 42° 55' N, 0° 09' E.
Dominato a nord dal Picco di mezzodì di Bigorra (2872 m) e a sud dal pic d'Espade (2467m), è generalmente chiuso tra dicembre e giugno.StoriaIl colle era già famoso prima del Tour de France.
