Vicente Heffner, CSsR, tuvo un ideal que hoy es una realidad viva.
El sueño de este querido sacerdote era dar a los niños de esta población una escuela donde se respirara un ambiente religioso.
El la llamó "Escuelita de Dios".
Su ambición era ofrecer una educación académica al nivel más elevado, con el esfuerzo de una institución religiosa hábilmente dirigida..

Así, partiendo de una filosofía que enmarca la educación que reciben los estudiantes en un ambiente católico y que propulsa la excelencia académica, se fundó el Colegio San Carlos.
La inolvidable Mrs.
Pamies, en cierta ocasión, recordó a los Alumni de este plantel lo siguiente:.

"Empezamos dentro de la mayor pobreza material: una casa vieja en la calle Marina con pupitres y libros, también viejos.
No contábamos con biblioteca, ni material didáctico, ni espacio adecuado donde desenvolvernos.
Sin embargo, aquella escuela se convirtió en una fuente de esperanzas, en un recinto de amor...".

En septiembre de 1947, el Colegio San Carlos era una realidad aguadillana.
Bajo la dirección de la Sra.
Esther Pamies de Hernández, cuatro Hermanas Trinitarias y un equipo magnífico de laicos, la "Escuela de Dios" comenzó a sembrar amor con la esperanza de algún día recoger el fruto.
Al año siguiente (1948) las riendas del plantel pasaron a las Hermanas Dominicas de St.
Catherine, Kentucky.
Estas siervas de Dios desarrollaron una labor educativa y religiosa de gran excelencia y provecho para la juventud aguadillana, logrando la acreditación oficial del Departamento de Instrucción Pública de Puerto Rico..

En el 1963 el Colegio fue acreditado por Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
La encomiable labor de estas Hermanas se extendió hasta el año 1976, en el que partieron de nuestra escuela por falta de personal religioso, con la esperanza de regresar algún día..

Desde entonces la escuela ha sido dirigida por personal laico, quienes tratan de continuar la magnífica labor apostólica y educativa que ellas comenzaron.
En el año 1983, la escuela elemental del Colegio fue acreditada por Middle States Association, Assembly of Elementary Schools, resultando la primera escuela elemental en ser acreditada en Puerto Rico y la segunda en el Caribe.
