Detailed description is CityLab-Orlando is a full residency UF Master of Architecture program located in and Orlando, Florida.
CityLab is a University of Florida Master of Architecture program with locations in Orlando and Sarasota, Florida.
The program offers an NAAB accredited degree qualifying students who for licensure as architects in the United States and Canada.
CityLabs are satellites of the University of Florida School of Architecture following the same curriculum and drawing from an experience group of both UF faculty and talented adjunct professors from the local communities.
Students from the US, Asia, and Europe are drawn to these important Florida cities to study architecture through the lenses of: a sensitive coastal/hydric ecology; a transformation of post war american city forms to more sustainable models; a lineage of regional modernism(s) that have defined the place; a place considered to be ground zero for emerging strategies that respond to sea level rise; and a region with continuing dramatic population growth.
Students will explore these cultural challenges through analytical modes of research and perhaps more importantly through synthetic modes of design that offer architectures and urban forms that respond to these forces.
Student responses, as both theoretical speculations and practical solutions, will be evaluated within the context of the communities and perhaps carried forward to implementation..
