Detailed description is Le château de la Verrerie, anciennement la manufacture de Cristaux de la Reine, se situe dans la commune du Creusot, en Saône-et-Loire.
Il fait l’objet d’un classement et d'une inscription au titre des monuments historiques depuis.HistoireLa manufacture de cristaux de la Reine est créée en 1786 au Creusot (à l'époque sur la commune de Montcenis), en remplacement de la manufacture de cristaux de Sèvres, afin de réduire le coût de la fusion du verre grâce à la proximité immédiate de houille.
L'activité opérationnelle débute en 1787 avant d'être stoppée en 1792 par la Révolution française.
L'activité reprend en 1806 après son rattachement à la fonderie du Creusot.
La cristallerie est alors réputée pour son procédé de taille en pointe de diamant.
Un nouveau déclin survient vers 1829, jusqu'à la mise en vente en 1833 aux Etablissements de Baccarat et de St Louis, qui la ferment définitivement.Le bâtiment, inutilisé, est vendu aux frères Schneider en 1837 qui entreprennent des transformations en 1847 : la cristallerie devient la résidence de la famille Schneider pour plus d'un siècle.
