Detailed description is Children's Toy and Doll Museum provides a glimpse into the past of what entertained and educated children in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Children's Toy and Doll Museum was founded by Sally Hille when she organized the Bicentennial Woman's Club in 1976.
The doll houses, which you will find in the museum today, were once displayed first in the Campus Martius Museum in Marietta.

In 1989 the museum was moved to two train cars located in the Harmar Village section of Marietta and remained there for seven years.
By 1996, more space was needed and the museum moved to 206 Gilman Avenue.
The house was renovated by various organizations, families and individuals to provide the museum a new home.

The house was built in 1889 by George Strecker, a local boiler maker.
It is a lovely, old house in Eastlake/Queen Anne style.
Thanks to area groups, each adopting a room to renovate, the museum is truly a hidden treasure displaying toys and collections of years ago..
Currently, the museum offers three new collections which have been added to entice repeat visitors and to attract others who may never have been to the museum.

A unique and varied collection of Native American Dolls currently has 70 dolls displayed and is divided into five geographical groups for our visitors.
The dolls represent different time periods and diverse cultures through out North America.
Many of the materials used were things found in nature, both plant and animal materials..
Models of Toy Cars From THE 1920’s, 1930’s AND 1940’s are currently on display.
These miniature are replicas of actual cars of the past.
Toy companies represented in this display include Marx, Wyandotte, Distler(Germany), Auburn, Rainbow, Seiberling and Arcade.
The cars represented are constructed of passed steel, cast iron, tin, lithograph, rubber and cardboard..
A collection of Shirley Temple dolls has recently been added.
The collection has over 80 dolls representing Shirley Temple Black's career as a child star.
The collection also contains memorabilia of Shirley Temple from doll outfits representing her movies, photos, books and paper dolls..
The museum has nine rooms of toys and dolls, ranging from pioneer days, to "Happy Days" and everything in between.
