.
CHILDREN ARE SPECIAL CURRICULUM.
The goal of providing an enriching quality curriculum is reached by maintaining a consistent B.S.E.
degreed teacher in the classroom that understands and can apply their child development knowledge while working with young children.
It is critical that the teacher builds a strong trusting relationship with the child, and provide nurturing positive guidance.
The environment and curriculum is structured to meet the physical, emotional, social, linguistic, and cognitive development of the individual child.
Curriculum is designed to develop and strengthen the child's skills and development at his or her own particular level.
The day's schedule will be centered around large blocks of time for the children to play, explore and manipulate materials that are provided to them in different learning centers.
The daily schedule will include planned learning activities to enhance language and cognitive skills, outdoor play to stimulate physical growth, and open-ended art activities to arouse creativity, build upon problem solving and autonomy, and social interaction among peers.
Children will develop a positive self image through a balance of teacher directed and child initiated activities.
Positive concepts will be taught in the program in order to equip children with the skills they will need to become productive adults in our society.
The classroom teacher will maintain an observational evaluation and portfolio on each child.
.
CHILDREN ARE SPECIAL'S PHILOSOPHY.
Children Are Special is designed to meet the total needs of young children age’s three to eight, and their families in today's changing world.
The most important time of development in a child's life is the first eight years.
During those crucial first years a child goes through major developmental growth in learning emotional and social awareness, language and cognitive skills, and creative and physical development.
Children Are Special appreciates the individuality of children and families and celebrates diversity, and we are dedicated to helping each child develop his/her unique skills and reach their full potential.
We accept that children are intrinsically motivated to learn.
The curriculum promotes learning through music and play by providing an environment which encourages discovery, experimentation, and the opportunity to see the results of one's actions.
Activities that support growth based on children's abilities and interests are utilized each day in learning centers..
Children learn from their environment through positive experiences from nurturing encouraging adults.
We assert that parents are the primary role models and caregivers of their children.
We want to form a positive, trusting relationship with parents and child in order to provide the best educational experience possible.
Since parents are the most important people in their child's life; we want parents to communicate their ideas and suggestions about how to best educate their child.
We need parent cooperation in our efforts to provide quality early care and education that all children need and deserve.
We feel the most important aspect of our program is to provide the children with a safe, warm, loving, respectful, and educational atmosphere, with positive adult role models that can help the children develop their own autonomy.

“This year my preschoolers will see, hear, and attempt to play 40 traditional and ethnic instruments throughout the school year.
During the fall we work our way through the brass family playing the trumpet, trombone, French horn and tuba.
When it comes time for woodwinds, we visit the saxophone, clarinet and flute.
Then we move to percussion and strings, playing everything from snare to glockenspiel, to violin, cello and harp.
After that, we move into folk and ethnic instruments from our collection of instruments.
During the spring they will experience the shofar, saz, erhu, steel pan, accordion, dumbek, darbuka, bohdran, pan pipes, bagpipes, hammered dulcimer, banjo, mandolin and more.
We provide young children with the opportunity to experience instruments at a young age.
At their age they have no preconceived ideas so they are open to trying every instrument.
