Detailed description is The commissioner is supported in her work by team of staff at the Office of Chief Provincial Commissioner for Children (OCPCC) & Hon’ble Ombudsman Punjab.
The office of Chief Provincial Commissioner for Children (OCPCC) is an upgraded establishment of Children Complaint Office that was set up in may 2009 under the aegis of Ombudsman Punjab.
The objective was to provide a dedicated forum for receiving and resolving complaints of children against maltreatment by any provincial agency/functionary.
Now the scope and mandate of OCPCC has been enhanced in line with the provisions of the United Nations Convention for Rights of the Children (UNCRC) and is not only providing a dedicated mechanism for redressal of child grievances and resolving complaints made by or on behalf of children, noticed by us and by sou moto but also safeguarding the Rights and promoting welfare of the children and young people of or below the age of 18 years.
It also assumed the responsibility to ensure that all laws, policies, programs and administrative mechanisms are in consonance with the Child Rights perspective as enshrined in the constitution of Pakistan and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Children..
Since its inception this office is striving hard and doing its utmost to provide relief to children.
OCPCC has conducted orientation sessions in several schools of Punjab for spreading awareness amongst the children, community and stakeholders.
Open katcheries also conducted in Multan, GD Khan, RY Khan, Faisalabad and Muzaffargardh.
During the visit issues of missing facilities in schools of Punjab, provision of clean water, furnishing and refurbishing of old primary and secondary level schools , sexual abuse, corporal punishment, missing children, child trafficking, child pornography, child domestic labour, street children, drug addicts children and children in confinement were highlighted.
The state of affairs is far from being satisfactory and concerned quarters may take cognizance of the issue.
