La cattedrale di San Martino è il principale luogo di culto cattolico della città di Lucca, chiesa madre dell'omonima arcidiocesi.Secondo la tradizione, il duomo fu fondato da San Frediano nel VI secolo, poi riedificato da Anselmo da Baggio, vescovo della città, nel 1060 ed infine rimaneggiato tra il XII e il XIII secolo.StoriaIl sito della cattedrale, come in altre città di antica origine, si colloca ai limiti della città romana: gli spazi centrali della Lucca romana erano fortemente urbanizzati e non era ancora attuabile il progetto, che si concretizzerà per la chiesa di San Michele, di utilizzare lo spazio del foro.
