El Carnaval de las Artes, es un evento internacional de cinco días, que brinda homenaje a grandes creadores del mundo, da a conocer su vida y su obra, estimula a estudiar sus procesos de creación y promueve, entre los habitantes de nuestra ciudad, una reflexión a fondo sobre la imaginación y, en consecuencia, los distintos elementos que habitan y componen el Carnaval de Barranquilla, declarado por la UNESCO, patrimonio de la humanidad..
El Carnaval de las Artes es organizado todos los años, hacia los meses enero y febrero, por la Fundación La Cueva en el Teatro Amira de la Rosa y otros escenarios alternos de Barranquilla, la capital del Atlántico.
El evento cuenta con el auspicio de numerosas entidades privadas y públicas y el respaldo informativo de varios órganos nacionales de comunicación.
Parte de los recursos recogidos financia los distintos programas formativos de la fundación, para niños y jóvenes de la región Caribe colombiana..
Han participado en las cuatro versiones producidas por La Cueva los periodistas Jon Lee Anderson y Patricia Janiot; los músicos, Chico César, Celso Piña (México) y Alessandra Leao (Brasil), Net Sublette (USA), Senén Suárez y Pancho Amat de (Cuba); los escritores Carlos Monsiváis (México), José Ribas (España), Fernando Vallejo (Colombia), Pedro Lemebel (Chile) y Héctor Abad Faciolince (Colombia); el periodista de Le Monde Jean Michelle Caroit (Francia); la actriz Sylvia Kristel (Holanda) y el director de cine Tinto Brass (Italia), el diseñador de máscaras, Donato Sartori (Italia); los caricaturistas Roberto Fontanarrosa, Hermenegildo Sabat y Cris (Argentina).
