Jahrhunderts (wohl nach dem Jahr 1177) vergab der Trierer Erzbischof Arnold I.
von Valancourt den Besitz als Lehen an Arnulf von Walecourt (Arnolphe de Walecourt), Vogt von Merzig, der dort die erste Burg "Munkler" - Montclair - (heute als Alt-Montclair bezeichnet) nahe der Ruine der alten fränkischen Höhenburg Burg Skiva (= Fels, von Erzbischof Poppo von Babenberg 1016 während der Moselfehde zerstört) errichtet hatte.
Über den Hintergrund und die näheren Umstände der dadurch beigelegten Streitigkeiten zwischen dem Bistum Trier und Arnulf, der sich spätestens seit 1195 auch "Arnold de Monclir" nannte und wahrscheinlich mit einer Gräfin aus dem mächtigen Haus derer von Sponheim verheiratet gewesen war (möglicherweise einer Schwester des Grafen Heinrich von Sponheim), ist nichts bekannt.
Die undatierte Urkunde, die den Konflikt beilegt, bezeugt nur, dass Arnulf dort eine Burg errichtet hatte, die der Bischof von Trier ihm nun als Lehen überträgt.
Schließen kann man daraus, dass Arnulf in einer vorangegangenen Streitigkeit dem Bischof unterlag, und sich ihm nun "unterwerfen" muss.
