William Britton was born in England about 1610 and was an early settler in St.
Mary's County, Maryland.
Leonard Calvert established St.
Mary's in 1634 on behalf of his brother - Lord Baltimore, the Lord Proprietor of Maryand.
William Britton, Gentleman, followed in 1637 with his wife, a young son, and several indentured servants.
He was given an 1,000-acre grant of land by Lord Baltimore for coming to the new world and transporting his household.
