Detailed description is Le boulevard René-Lévesque est une voie d'orientation nord-est / sud-ouest de Montréal.
La circulation y est importante et on y trouve plusieurs immeubles de bureaux.130pxHistorique du nomHistoriquement nommé au départ le Grand chemin de la Haute-Folie, cette voie fut par la suite appelée rue Dorchester, du nom de l'ancien gouverneur britannique Guy Carleton, premier baron Dorchester.
La rue Dorcherster devient le boulevard Dorchester en 1955 puis le nom de ce boulevard fut à nouveau modifié en 1987 à la suite du décès de l’ancien premier ministre du Québec, René Lévesque, fondateur et premier chef du Parti québécois.
Par la suite, on entendait fréquemment l’ancien nom de la rue (Dorchester), ce qui a créé une certaine ambiguïté.
Cet ambiguïté semble beaucoup moins présente aujourd'hui.Histoire du développement du boulevardLe boulevard constitue l'une des artères majeures de la ville.
Son élargissement en 1954-55 nécessite la démolition de nombreuses villas qui le bordent de part et d'autre.
La maison Shaugnessy (devenue le Centre canadien d'architecture) et les maisons Thomas Judah (1980, boulevard René-Lévesque Ouest) et Masson (2080, boulevard René-Lévesque Ouest) à proximité, témoignent de cette époque révolue où cette voie était une artère résidentielle recherchée.Cet élargissement fut demandé par le promoteur immobilier planifiant la construction de la Place Ville-Marie.
Ce geste urbain a permis la venue de plusieurs édifices en hauteur surtout au centre-ville.
