From the beginning at our first home we always grew edibles in the form of berries and fruit trees.
Starting in Michigan and working our way through stops at several states we ended up in Kansas.
Finding a home here in Louisburg and with 3 Acres to work with, we began again to plant trees, shrubs and all sorts of greenery.

We soon found out the challenges of growing here in Kansas versus the other states we have lived in.
With a lot of trial and error we found out that the best way, was to go to the Native selections and Heirloom varieties.
We have cultivars that have been long forgotten.
Plant such as the Homestead Quince from Denise’s Grandparents Farm, and a Red Flesh Crab Apple from John’s great Grandfathers Farm..
Friends visited our home and gardens and asked for advice or perhaps a plant start.
This prompted Denise to start growing some of the Black berry plants and perennials.
Before we knew it we were growing more and more plants and conducting more research to find the best plants.

Now Denise does stem cutting, seed propagation and purchasing from wholesalers all over the US.
With a small green house, propagation begins in February and continues into early summer.
Our goal is having enough to sell at the farmers market all summer long..
Since we have Boston Bull Dogs and usually a large dog around to greet the visitors and the fact that the first plants sold were Thorn-less Blackberry we decided to call our business Boston Berry Farm..
Boston Berry Farm is all about growing drought tolerant and “Native” plantings, shrubs and trees.
By proving the plant tolerances on our own property we can continue to provide strong plants and trees that can handle the Kansas extremes of Winter and Summer.

We are also providing “Edible Landscape” selections such as Hardy Figs, Currants, Blue Berries, Pine Berry, Alpine Strawberry and Goji Berries just to name a few.
In addition we have patio plants which can be over wintered in garages or in the house.
