The Lodge – The Founding Principles.

Reg Aldridge was indeed the “founding father” of the new Lodge in 1993, and at his suggestion it was agreed that all the founders would be past and present members of the Manor Class of Masonic Instruction.

Not being a formal Lodge of Instruction of any particular Lodge, the Class attracted many Masons who lived in the area, but whose Lodges were not in Bletchley.

Therefore, to satisfy all needs the ritual/workings was emulation pure and simple.
Manor of Swanburn Lodge 8647 agreed whole heartily to sponsor this new Lodge.

What is in a name? .

There are six Craft lodges in residence at the Bletchley Masonic Centre, each with a distinctive identity, namely St Martins, Brickhill, Magiovinium, Manor of Swanburn, Fenny Stratford and Longueville, all names with historic origins.

At the outset, it was decided to incorporate Bletchley in the name.
First thoughts were that Bletchley lacked the charisma that the other lodges had in their titles, however, we had right here in Bletchley one of the most significant places in modern history – Bletchley Park.

During the Second World War, Bletchley Park became the headquarters of the Government Code and Cypher School and became the most important communications centre in the history of modern warfare.

It was in Bletchley Park that the first computer was built in 1943.

The new Lodge then was to be named Bletchley Park Lodge.

The Lodge Banner - The prepared and accepted design of the Banner showed the silhouette of the Mansion in the Park, a grade 11 listed building which was built in 1870.

A square pavement would front the Mansion to remind us that there was probably many eminent Masons connected with the Park over the years.
