Dall'aggettivo in lingua ungherese della sua città natale prese il cognome d'arte che adottò durante la sua lunga carriera di attore.Partecipò alla prima guerra mondiale come tenente di fanteria dell'Imperial regio Esercito dal 1914 al 1916 e, dopo il conflitto, fondò il sindacato degli attori e fu parte attiva della sinistra del suo paese.
