Detailed description is Em 2016 acontecerá o 18º desfile da Banda e o homenageado será o compositor, intérprete, escritor e estudioso de culturas africanas, Nei Lopes do Salgueiro.Seu primeiro desfile foi no dia 11 de fevereiro de 1998, com uma grande homenagem ao trabalhador do Centro do Rio.
No ano seguinte a homenagem foi póstuma e ao próprio Albino Pinheiro.
Desde então, a Banda já homenageou grandes personagens da história cultural do Rio de janeiro: sambistas, escritores, jornalistas, entre outros, como Garrincha, Lamartine Babo, Ricardo Cravo Albin, nosso presidente de honra, Rubem Confete, Ruy Castro, Haroldo Costa e Bira Presidente, Ancelmo Gois, Martinho da Vila, Tia Surica e Guilherme Nunes, em homenagem póstuma.
E é com dose extra de alegria, que a Banda desfilará sua maioridade no dia 4 de fevereiro, quinta-feira que antecedo o Carnaval, a partir das 19 horas, com concentração na esquina da Rua do Mercado com Rua do Ouvidor, em frente ao antigo prédio da Bolsa de Valores, do Rio de Janeiro, a partir das 17 horas.
Neste horário começam no local, as apresentações de vários expoentes do samba carioca..
A Banda da Rua do Mercado foi fundada em 1998 por jornalistas, operadores do mercado financeiro, comerciantes, profissionais liberais, estudantes e trabalhadores do Centro do Rio, além de frequentadores da região em torno da Praça XV e do Arco do Teles.
Um de seus fundadores e maiores incentivadores foi Albino Pinheiro, também fundador da Banda de Ipanema..
