La Liga Bancaria de Fútbol transformada con los años en la Asociación Bancaria Argentina de Deportes nació de una idea de Juan Manuel Lage del Banco Germánico de la América del Sud para darles la posibilidad a los empleados bancarios criollos de disfrutar y practicar este deporte ya que por aquellos tiempos el fútbol era privilegio de los ingleses residentes en nuestro país y solamente lo jugaban los empleados de los bancos británicos que se medían con sus compatriotas trabajadores de los ferrocarriles..

Es así que comenzando el año 1913 y el 17 de marzo, reunidos en el Club Gimnasia y Esgrima de Buenos Aires por invitación del Dr.Ricardo Aldao un grupo de entusiastas del fútbol deciden constituír una liga bancaria.
Esta liga fue compuesta inicialmente por 11 clubes bancarios que presentaron 1 equipo cada uno.
Los mismos fueron: Club Atlético Banco Germánico de la América del Sud; Club Atlético Banco de la Nación Argentina; Club Atlético Banco Español del Río de La Plata; Club Atlético Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires; Club Atlético Banco Popular Argentino; Club Atlético Banco de Italia; Club Atlético Banco Suizo Sud Americano; Club Atlético Banco Hipotecario Nacional; Club Atlético Banco Comercial Italiano; Club Atlético Banco Francés del Río de La Plata y el Club Atlético Banco Británico de la América del Sud.
Se designó como 1er.Presidente al Sr.José María Lage del Banco Germánico de la América del Sud y al Sr.Francisco G.

Como parte de la expansión deportiva desde entonces y siendo una iniciativa de la ABAD, en el año 1953 se constituye la Confederación Deportiva Bancaria Sudamericana, con el objetivo de fomentar los lazos de confraternidad entre los deportistas bancarios del continente, llevando a partir de ese momento innumerables justas deportivas de diversas disciplinas..
