He was also elected as a member of parliament during 1996–98 from Anakapalli constituency.
He became a minister in the cabinets of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Nara Chandrababu Naidu, holding various portfolios, including Panchayat Raj, Technical Education, Forests, and Roads, and Buildings.
He lost the election from same MLA constituency during 1989–93 and in 2009 and Now he is serving as a Cabinet minister in Government of Andhra Pradesh.
