We would like to make you aware of our way of handling another problem - fires.
Douglas County is not a tax based fire department.
There are several departments within the county, which take care of their region.
The Ava Rural Fire Department takes care of an area outside the city limits of Ava North on highway 5 to the Wright County line; East on East Highway 76 to "FR126" and East on East highway 14 to just past "FR326"; South on South 5 highway to "FR413"; West on West 76 highway to "PP" highway, West on "Y" highway to "FR519" and West on West 14 highway to "AK" highway (just west of "O" highway).
These are the approximate boundary lines for our department.

The membership dues are $50.00 per year due in August each year.
Membership dues letters will go out to each member the last of July or first part of August.
If you are a member, the department will take care of any fire on your place without further charges.
If you are not a member we will respond and take care of the fire, but you will be charged $100.00 to respond and $500 per hour thereafter as set forth by Missouri Statute.
Your insurance company usually will pay part of the bill but the landowner is responsible for the portion not paid by the insurance company.
Each residence is required to have a membership.

The Ava Rural Fire Department is strictly a volunteer fire department.
These men are interested in protecting the lives and property of the residents of Douglas County and receive no reimbursement for their services.
Therefore, they all have other jobs and must be called from their jobs or homes at the time of a fire.
Some of the places of business continue to pay for their work hours, and others have to forfeit work pay to help the community.
