Astronaut Marcos Pontes has 25 years of experience in the Air Force, working as a fighter pilot, test pilot, flight safety expert, and aeronautical engineer on high technology projects and military operations.

He retired from the Air Force in 2006 at the rank of Lt.
Col., and continues working for the Brazilian Space Program.

He is the first Brazilian Astronaut, and the only Portuguese speaking astronaut of the world.
Pontes was selected in 1998 as part of the NASA 17th Class of Astronauts.
In 2006 he flew to the International Space Station, aboard the Russian Soyuz TMA-8 along with ISS Commander Pavel Vinogradov, and Flight Engineer Jeff Williams.
Currently, in addition to his work to promote and improve Space Research, Pontes is an entrepreneur.
He works as a Technical Consultant, Motivational Speaker, and Personal and Executive Coach.
