The goal of this class is to develop a supportive, young community of artists with some guidance, while nurturing each person's unique and original style.
What better way then to create your own personalized sketchbook to express your unique voice in a fun, social setting at The Dolphin Bookshop! Students will meet with local artist Jade Kuei and work on a different weekly theme, in their sketchbooks.
Each class will start by showing what each student came up with the week before, we will also learn some techniques and do exercises as well as take a look for inspiration at artists from current popular art genres and movements such as POP SURREALISM, LOW BROW, URBAN/STREET ART, KAWAII, MANGA, COMICS and more..

About the artist: Jade Kuei a.k.a.
“MUMBOT” graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, focusing on fine art and two-dimensional animation.
In her free time she has been hard at work developing powerful creative formulas.
Kuei illustrates whimsical yet haunted abstractions of her own dreams and experiences.
Her kids and their superpowers, have been catalysts of inspiration and as the fulcrum for her further documentation, remain the key to unlocking her magnum opus.

Kuei's work has been described as "Creepy-cute" and is generally associated with lowbrow, urban/street, kawaii, pop-surrealist art.
She has exhibited around the country and as far as the Philippines.
Most recent notable art gallery exhibitions include Giant Robot's Post-it Shows alongside artists such as Matt Groening, Jim Lee, Audrey Kawasaki, James Jean & more in Los Angeles, a traveling skateboarding themed exhibition in Colorado titled "Push, Pop, Kick" and also in Brooklyn at the Cotton Candy Machine in their juried show.
More recent group exhibitions of note include La Luz De Jesus's "Coaster Show" (last year and this year).
As featured guest artist she created a mural this year at Northside Festival in Brooklyn.
Her work has also been published in several art & design books & zines including "Kawaii Design+" and "Chibi Manga Irresistible" which was just released in 2016 - the books are available at the PW Public Library or try your local bookstore..

Upcoming shows include Bewitching 7 @ Stranger Factory, a small group show @ Rotofugi and more.
You can find Miss Jade teaching "Art Club" at the PRC and other art workshops for kids in Port Washington.
