La Arena México, ubicada en la Colonia Doctores de la Ciudad de México, es considerada la Catedral de la lucha libre mexicana, pues en su interior se han desarrollado los encuentros más importantes de este deporte.IniciosLa historia del “Coloso de la Doctores” es muy amplia.
Su nacimiento se dio gracias a que la afición a la lucha libre creció enormemente durante la década de los 40 y 50.
Hay que recordar que Salvador Lutteroth González, conocido también como el padre de la lucha libre en México, presentó la primera función de lucha libre en la capital de la República mexicana el 21 de septiembre de 1933.
Para esto alquiló la Arena Modelo, la cual remodeló para este fin y rebautizó como Arena México.
Ubicada en Dr.
Río de la Loza la antigua Arena México tenía capacidad para 4500 espectadores aproximadamente, sus gradas eran de madera y en un principio carecía de un techo.
Gracias al éxito que el naciente deporte estaba cobrando, las funciones fueron trasladadas a otros escenarios como fue la Arena Nacional.
Pero la afición seguía creciendo y se hizo necesaria la edificación de un escenario de primer, por lo que Salvador Lutteroth se dio la tarea de crear la Arena Coliseo® del Distrito Federal.
La década de los 40 y 50 caracterizaron a México, especialmente a la capital, por un espíritu emprendedor.
Se pretendía llevar al país y a sus ciudadanos a un estado de confort, por lo que se hicieron grandes empresas tanto educativas como culturales y la lucha libre no se quedó atrás.
