Grad Asst: Stephanie Fischer (1st year) The focus of the 2013-14 Aquinas College women’s basketball team is to take care of the small things that will lead to success.
Defensive pressure will be the key to the success of the team.
Head Coach Linda Nash, entering her 18th season at the helm of the program says, “We are on a mission.
We have all of the tools to be a very good basketball team.
What will separate us from the pack is if we can get tougher and play tenacious defense for 40 minutes every night we lace up our shoes for games.
It is a challenge that we talk about every day in practice.”.

The Saints return six seniors with plenty of playing experience and the drive to cap off their playing career with a WHAC conference championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
Taelor Sanders and Lindsey Karpowicz return for a fifth year after both sustained season ending injuries a year ago.
Sander’s was a member of the WHAC All-Conference team her junior year as she led the Saints in scoring with 16 ppg.
She is a hard-nosed competitor that loves a challenge and her commitment to training will make her one of the premier players in the WHAC.
Karpowicz, is focused and ready for her final campaign.
She will provide a strong presence in the post and she has improved her shooting around the basket.
Carly Bardwell, Jenna Brower and Nicci Thomas will all provide a defensive spark for the team.
They possess good length defensively and they are aggressive rebounders.
Senior sharp-shooting guard Marisa Marx will provide an offensive punch for the Saints.

The junior class is solid with Allison Heberlein, Chelsea Matley and Elle Sturgell.
Heberlein had a breakout season last year as a sophomore while trying to fill the void on the perimeter when Sanders went down with an injury.
She was an All-Conference performer and averaged 15 ppg.
Matley is one of the quickest players on the team and has the ability to be a great defensive stopper for the Saints.
She came on extremely strong at the end of the season and she will be counted on to bring energy on the court.
She has a deadly pull-up jump shot and is not afraid to mix it up.
Sturgell, a volleyball player for the Saints, will join the team in mid-November.
She has good size and athleticism..

The sophomore class of Brooklynne Lane and Dani Lollo will be joined by two transfer players, Angela Broggi and Emily Sweet.
Lane and Lollo both logged significant minutes as freshman and both will factor heavily into the Saints plans.
Lane is a 6’2” force in the post and she has the ability to dominate.
Lollo had a great summer of training and it has shown in the pre-season.
She is a blue-collar worker and she has a knack for the ball.
Although undersized, look for her to battle for every ball.
Transfer students Angela Broggi and Emily Sweet have skills that will mesh well for the Saints.
Broggi is a solid player with a great understanding of the game and she is physical.
Sweet, as her name says it, has a “sweet” shot and is a player that has the ability to light it up from deep..

The freshman class of Kelsey Spitzley and Taylor Pitts (Pitts and Spitz) will factor into plans for the Saints.
What they lack in experience, they make up for in hustle and defense.
Spitzley is an all-around player with great size at 5’10”.
She knows the game and is making the adjustment to a quicker and stronger collegiate game.
Pitts is lightning quick on defense and she has the ability to get to the basket and find open team-mates.
She is a true point guard and will give opponents fits while defending them..

Coach Nash is joined by long-time Assistant Coach Ray Fron who returns for his 15th year on the sideline.
Coach Fron comments, “There is a great competitive spirit in practice.
The seniors are providing great leadership and we are really focusing on our defensive game.
It is a grueling season and the WHAC is a very competitive conference.
