Qus: 6).What does the local business do?
Ans: My Name is Dou Pothmolita (better known in Cambodia as "Apple Love", my professional nickname). I am a self-taught, freelance Cambodian make-up artist and have worked as such for the last 5 years. My work mostly includes fashion photo shoots, movie sets, and training workshops. I have a specific interest for special effect makeup techniques, including those used in horror movies and creative fashion shoot. I also use my art to promote various social issues such as Environment, children and Woman Right that are important to me. I have worked with international film crews and photographers, not only in Cambodia but also in Thailand, Lao and Vietnam. I recently worked as the makeup artist on the set of Angelina Jolie's movie "First They Killed My Father", filmed in Cambodia and expected to be released next year on Netflix.
I have developed my creativity and have learned to interact with a wide variety of people while working with film crews and clients. Throughout my whole time being a makeup artist I believe in being open to take risks and trying new techniques .I woke up every day excited to find new makeup inspiration. The process from having the picture of the work in my head, to start doing it and finally seeing the result of my work is the greatest feeling I’ve had. I enjoy spending my night, sitting from 1 hour to 5 hours just doing makeup and painting myself. To me, it’s like taking a trip and going on an adventure. It’s relaxing and almost like meditation. I also love mixing the beauty looks with gore and scary makeup. I also used to challenge myself into transforming myself into one different animal every day for 100 days, posting it on social media and increasing awareness about endangered species.
What started out mostly as a personal challenge to myself and eventually got so much attention from teenagers in Cambodia,
that I finally set out to organize an exhibition called :
_The Jungle Project ( https://www.facebook.com/The-Jungle-Project) It was extremely successful and 400 people joined us for the opening night. From this experience, I believe I can use makeup to inspire and empower young people in so many different ways, using this art form to send out a message about social issues and focus people’s attention on good causes like environmental protection, cultural history, dangers of drugs, animal protection, etc.
- I’m also organized the latest exhibition called @The Sea Project, in order to raise awareness about endangered maritime species in Cambodia.
- I often travels to remote villages (around Asia) to offer free face paint and makeup sessions to children.
- I also directed several short movies showing the evolution of Khmer women's makeup and fashion throughout history.
-I also Produced the video “The Fashion Revolution of Cambodian woman thought out history video “
I believe on hard working, empower woman and follow my dream and fight for my passion and I see the power of using art to empower my society and help the poor in my country. I believe my makeup can inspire Cambodian women to be independent and getting out there and spread her wings.
