The Andrews-Wing House History:.
The House was built in 1855 and is a wonderful tribute to Boonville’s history.
The house had two notable individuals that developed and then added to its structure through the 1850’s and 60’s.
The house was originally built by David Andrews (1809-1893), who was from one of the oldest pioneer families of Boonville.
David was responsible for the oldest main rooms of the house.
The house was expanded by Freeman Wing (1800-1865) who added an edition to accommodate his family that lived in the house through 1865.
.
.
David Andrews came from Pittsburg, PA to St Louis in the early 1820’s to settle with his brother Thomas Andrews.
Thomas Andrews was one of the first stockholders in Boatman’s Bank of St.
louis and had a Tin Shop where David learned the trade of a Tinner.
In 1828 David settled in Old Franklin.
After severe flooding washed away the business district, David Andrews moved to Boonville for more stable grounds.
David was 19 years old when he settled in Boonville.
He opened a tin shop and shortly thereafter added a hardware store as the town boomed.
Andrews amassed a sizable fortune which was a long way from when he arrived in Boonville with only the clothing on his back.
He was known for his honest dealings, his high energy level, strict integrity and his community involvement in the Methodist Church.
Mr.
Andrews was a founding member of City Council when the city was incorporated in Feb of 1839 and was Boonville’s 5th Mayor from 1847-1848..
.
In 1855 David began the work on the house at 733 Main street in Boonville.
By this time Boonville had grown to a population of over 2,800 people and attracting river traffic of as many as five or six steamboats each day.
The boats would take on or discharge freight and passengers bringing life and commerce to the town.
The original structure included two main rooms on the main floor with a small ell over the walkout basement.
Freeman Wing purchased the house for his wife Catherine and their family of 13 children in 1857.
They built an addition and lived in the house until Freeman died in 1865.
The expansions were made to accommodate the family and their needs.
.
.
The house has been owned by many people over the years and has housed families, retail and office spaces.
The house has had many changes made, a wide front porch was added to enhance outdoor entertainment.
In 1920 a stone garage was built in the back yard for additional storage.
Bathrooms were added in the 1960’s.
The house continued to have little renovations over the years.
It was an antique shop for some years and later became a Lutheran counseling center.
Prior to its latest renovation the house was left empty for over a year with water issues taking their toll.
.
.
The house was most recently purchased by Norm Richert, of Central Consulting and Adjusting, in July of 2016.
Norm has had a long career as an adjustor helping people achieve home restoration from fires and other disasters.
When Norm purchased the house, it was in dire straits from damage and neglect.
Norm fell in love with the house.
His love for history combined with his knowledge and contacts in the restoration industry made him the ideal person to bring the Andrews-Wing House back to life.
