La American Military Academy, fundada por el Coronel Ramón M.
Barquín López, dio inicio a su misión educativa en enero de 1963 con 28 estudiantes, en los predios situados junto a la intersección de las antiguas carreteras 20 y Los Filtros de Guaynabo.
Años más tarde se abren los Recintos de Santa Paula y Los Robles.
En el 1976 se trasladan todos los planteles a su actual ubicación en la Avenida Lomas Verdes..

Con el tiempo se convierte en una institución coeducativa, graduando el primer grupo de niñas en el 1982.
El Programa Militar se convierte en opcional para varones de todos los grados en el 2001 y para las niñas de noveno grado en adelante, en una clase electiva.
