Actors Playground School of Theatre is a conservatory style studio that offers the highest level of professional training in the art of acting for all mediums and for all ages.
The Playground's friendly and creative atmosphere provides a strong foundation of encouragement and trust that allows its students to gain confidence in their work and challenge themselves uncluttered to explore their creative imagination.
With classes taught by highly qualified and passionate theatre professionals, The Playground's curriculum is cutting edge and covers a vast array of subjects, including the styles and techniques of Joseph Hart, Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, and Sanford Meisner.
Camera technique, commercial work, dialects, voice overs, improvisation, scene study, auditioning, voice, and movement are all extensively covered at the school.
The Playground is also a place where aspiring actors can network about industry opportunities and projects, where young playwrights and filmmakers can have readings and hold auditions, where actors can audition for some of the industry’s best agents and managers, where well-known actors come to teach seminars, and because of our partnership with Industry Film School, where students can now learn to act for the camera by participating in student films.

Classes meet once a week, are 90 minutes in length, and are offered Mon thru Sat.
Each class is $30, payable monthly.

Ralph Colombino Artistic Director.

has been a performer and educator for the past twenty four years.
He received a BFA degree from Mason Gross School of the Arts Professional Actor Training Program at Rutgers University.
He has studied acting with some of the theatre’s most renowned teachers, including; Pierre LeFevre, Victoria Hart, William Esper, Maggie Flanigan, Edward Stern, Harold Scott, Lloyd Williamson, Mai Loughran, Peter Nels, and Joseph Hart.
Mr.
Colombino has performed in nearly forty professional productions.
Most notably, Ralph was in the award-winning Shoestring Players 1989 company which began its American tour at The State Theater in New Brunswick NJ and ended it five months later at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland.
As a teacher, Mr.
Colombino has taught nearly every age at every level of education.
Some of his teaching credits include; Actor's Heritage in NYC, The Children’s Cultural Center in Red Bank NJ, Hoboken High School in NJ, Dance Theater Project in Spring Lake NJ, Fairleigh Dickinson University and presently, NJ Arts and Education Center, The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank NJ, and Monmouth University where, as an adjunct professor, Ralph teaches acting, theater appreciation, and directs mainstage shows..

Intro to acting.
Ages 6 to 8.

Intro to Acting is the class we offer to kids who show an early interest in the craft.
Self confidence and a strong sense of self is the first goal here.
Reinforcing the importance of being who they are, becoming comfortable with their own uniqueness, and confronting fear and self-doubt are the foundation of our work.
This is accomplished through encouragement, positive reinforcement.
Students are then challenged by a vast array of acting exercises from all over the world, by some of the greatest teachers, directors, actors, and playwrights the theatre has ever known.
Students will begin to discover and develop their creativity.
The curriculum includes; creative dramatics, improvisation, auditioning, public speaking, voice and movement, monologue and scene study, dialects, commercial work and camera technique.
Most of all, these classes are designed to be fun, because acting is fun.

Ages 8 to 12.

Intro to advanced acting technique is designed to be an older child's first acting class.
Self confidence is nurtured here as it is in Intro to acting, but is now channeled into developing stage presence.
Creative dramatics, improvisation, auditioning, public speaking, voice and movement, monologue and scene study, dialects, commercial work and camera technique are all taught in this course, as well as the beginnings of actor's preparation, inside out technique, creating the character, and advanced vocal and movement work.
This class is a perfect beginning to a young actor's training.

Meisner Technique is the main course of study in this class, although its main purpose is to work with each actor on a more individual basis.
Each student has very different artistic challenges they work through.
What comes easy to one student is not so easy for another.
The challenges every actor must face are vast and diverse, this course addresses each individual's particular battle.
