Open ended painting classes which allow students to develop and gain knowledge in an intuitive and personalised way.
The emphasis will be on the process and journey undertaken to make the work.

Over the coming weeks we will:.

Using unprimed canvas we will gesso and prepare cotton duck canvas for painting..

~ Begin the foundations of a painting, using preparatory drawings and studies to understand how to start the painting.
Initially you will work from a single subject image.
This will allow a chance for you to experiment with style and concept.
You will then be encouraged to find your own subject..

~ Over time the painting will be developed through layering paint and working with or against mistakes.
The conventions of painting, colour, tone, form, space and perspective, composition and figure ground will be discussed and applied in practice.
Depending on your work the emphasis may be on one or the other.
During this time you will also be encouraged to begin new works which enter into a visual dialogue with the older work.

The emphasis will be on trying as many different painting approaches as possible via smaller studies.
These will be applied to the main painting as fits your developing creative approach..

~ The art teacher Josh Honeyman has been exhibiting his paintings since 1996, both in Sydney and overseas.
In that time he has had 9 solo shows and been involved in countless group exhibitions.
Josh graduated with a Bacholor of Fine Arts from The College of Fine arts, UNSW in 1999.
He is able to draw on this training and more importantly his own experience as an artist.
Combined with over a decade working in art restoration for Charles Hewitt Gallery, he has a wealth of knowlegde to share with aspiring artists..
