امیر المؤمنین علی علیہ السّلام نے فرمایا: اے حارث! میری وجہ سے تین قسم کے افراد ھلاک ھوں گے: ایک وہ شخص جو میرے بارے میں غلو اور افراط کا شکار ھوا۔ دوسرا وہ شخص ھے جو میری شان و عظمت میں مقصّر ھے۔ تیسرا وہ شخص ھے جو مردود و پریشان ھے۔ وہ مجھے باقیوں پر مقدّم رکھے یا مؤخّر کرے۔ آپ نے فرمایا: اے حارث! تمھارے لئے اتنا ھی کافی ھے کہ تمھیں یہ معلوم ھو کہ میرے شیعوں میں سے سب سے افضل و بھتر وہ شخص ھے جو درمیانی راہ اختیار کرے اور ان کی طرف غالی بھی رجوع کریں اور دوسرے بھی ان کی اتّباع کریں۔ (بخوف طوالت حدیث کا صرف کچھ حصّہ یھاں بیان کیا گیا ھے۔ حدیث کے شروع کے اور آخری حوالہ کے لئے ملاحظہ کیجئے.
