We are a full service financial institution putting the "U" in Credit Union for 59 years! 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union was founded by Robert “Scotty” Scott and the co-founders: William Dawson, Joel Taylor, Morgan Moyer, Billie Brankovich, Ehud Markel, Kenneth Platt, and M.B.
Holt.
In June of 1955 your Credit Union was chartered as Great Falls Air Force Base Federal Credit Union.
The Credit Union started with only 54 members in August of 1955 with just 10 loans.
We have continually grown and now have nearly 22,000 members..

Starting out as Great Falls Air Force Base Federal Credit Union in 1955, we quickly changed our name to Malmstrom Air Force Base Federal Credit Union (MAFBFCU) 1956.
After many mergers our name was permanently changed to 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union.
We felt our “new” name better reflects our vision for members in the Great Falls, Grand Forks and future communities.
This name change represented our new vision – becoming 1st in all we do..

*1955/August – Great Falls Air Force Base Federal Credit Union charter was approved .
*1956/February – name changed to Malmstrom Air force Base Federal Credit Union .
*1957/January – name changed to Malmstrom Federal Credit union .
*1964/July – moved into location at 6200 3rd Avenue North, Great Falls .
*1981/August – assumed and merged with Grand Forks Air Force Base Federal Credit Union .
*1982/October – assumed and merged with Westside Federal Credit Union.

*1983/December name changed to 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union; this us enabled us to reflect new vision and members in the Great Falls, Grand Forks and potential future communities.

*1991 – merged with Cut Bank Community Federal Credit Union – giving us a presence in Glacier County.

*1993/August – assumed Glacier County Public Employee Federal Credit Union – serving the residents of the Browning Reservation and Glacier County .
*2000/November – Community membership approved to include all residents, workers, students, and those who attend any church located in the five counties of Cascade, Pondera, Teton, Choteau, and Glacier .
*2000/December – Operations Happy Holidays created to send care packages to our men and women serving overseas during the holidays.

*2002/August – opened temporary location in Conrad MT .
*2002/September – Robert H.
Scott elected to the Defense Credit Union Hall of Honor – representing him as a leader, visionary and patriot, and whose untiring efforts and endless support of the defense credit union movement and the Defense Credit Union Council epitomized the Counsel’s value of philosophy.

*2003/March – opened state of the art building in Conrad .
*2005/August – Steve Grooms President/CEO accepted award as the Air Force Credit Union of the Year for 2004.

*2005/August – 1st Liberty FCU celebrates 50 years of service to our members and communities .
*2006/May – moved the Cut Bank office into a brand new building with walk-up ATM and drive up window.

*2006/May – Drive up location opened on 10th Avenue South across from Bison Ford .
*2007/October – opened branch office on Malmstrom AFB .
*2008/January – opened the branch office in Riverview .
*2008/June – acquired and merged with the Electric City Federal Credit Union .
*2008/October – 10th Avenue South location expanded to a full service branch.
