Kelly McConnell has experience
On Tuesday, Hanover residents will vote on the Hanover and Dresden school budgets, as well as for School Board members. Given the multiple challenges of the pandemic, continuing work on the district’s strategic plan, and ongoing efforts at the state and local levels to control what and how teachers teach, it is critically important that we consider experience and continuity in selecting board members. With six years of service, if reelected, Kelly McConnell will be the longest-serving member of the Hanover board. Her tenure also exceeds that of every single administrator in SAU 70.

Hanover Finance Committee backs school district budget
On March 2, Hanover voters will have an opportunity to weigh in on next year’s proposed Hanover School District budget, as well as other important matters.
The Hanover Finance Committee unanimously supports the proposed agreement with Service Employees in Article 5 and the proposed Hanover School District budget in Article 6. The overall budget is down by $36,000, or .25%, from the current year. While anomalous, it is important to note that one item, sixth grade tuition, is responsible for this overall decrease as it is down by $609,000, or 24%, due to a fluctuation in the projected number of sixth graders. By contrast, the Ray School operating budget for grades pre-K through 5 is up $409,000, or 3.44%.

Voters in Hanover and Norwich will be asked to approve more than $1 million in school technology upgrades during Australian ballot voting next month.
The Dresden School District warrant calls for voters to approve a bond raising more than $842,700 for upgrades to Hanover High School and Richmond Middle School. Meanwhile, the Hanover School District is seeking more than $245,000 for the Ray School, while Norwich’s warning asks for about $216,000 for the Marion Cross School.
The package of projects is meant to improve teachers’ ability to teach remotely while also increasing the quality of technology used during in-person learning, according to school officials. It entails installing new cable lines, phones and improvements to infrastructure throughout the interstate school system.
