Photo: Missouri residents seeking hunter education certification have several options available. Several hunter education skills sessions will be taught at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Ozark Regional Office in West Plains in upcoming weeks for individuals who choose that option.
WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The calendar may still say “winter,” but many people are starting to prepare for spring turkey season or other upcoming hunting opportunities. If taking hunter education is one of the things you need to do to enjoy firearms hunting opportunities this year, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has several options available.
Individuals born on or after Jan. 1, 1967 hunting in Missouri during a firearms season or acting as an adult mentor to another hunter must have hunter education certification unless exempt. MDC offers two hunter education options; an all-online format and a blended format.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is advising area motorists to watch for road crews, as they will be out on three area highways this week.
The Howell County Health Department reports an additional 20 cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the county. This brings the year-to-date total number of cases to 3,395. Of the new cases: 10 reside in West Plains, three live in Willow Springs, five live in Mountain View, one lives in Pomona and one lives in Peace Valley. There have been 18,195 tests administered in Howell County.

For the second time in 30 days, the West Plains Police Department is investigating reports of stolen vehicles and is seeking the community’s help in locating a truck and van in the latest incidents.On Sunday morning at approximately 8:44, officers responded to a residence on St. Louis Street for a report of a stolen vehicle. Officers learned the vehicle, a gray 2020 Ford F-150 with a license plate of 18H-3GD, was stolen from the residence sometime between 11 Saturday evening and the time of call on Sunday. The owner of the vehicle named some people of interest, but at this time, the location of the vehicle is unknown.
