A man who brutally raped and murdered a baby is set to be released from jail because of parole legislation that takes into account the amount of time since an inmate s last offence. Douglas Wade raped and beat a 20-month-old baby girl he was babysitting in Tumut in central New South Wales in 1988. The 57-year-old was jailed for life for the heinous crime before his sentence was redetermined to 36 years in 2013. Wade s new sentence has a 26-year non-parole period, and since he has spent 32 years behind bars, he will be released from jail on Tuesday.
