Arooj Shah (Oldham Labour)
A second man has been arrested by police investigating a firebomb attack on the car of Oldham Council leader Arooj Shah.
The 22-year-old was detained by officers on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, Greater Manchester Police said on Friday. A 23-year-old who was arrested on Wednesday has since been bailed.
Detective Chief Inspector Wesley Knights said the action showed the force would “not rest until the circumstances around this incident are fully understood, and we have found and brought to justice those responsible for this reckless act”.
قالت صحيفة «إندبندنت» البريطانية إن عروج شاه، رئيسة مجلس أولدام، وهي أول امرأة مسلمة تتولي هذا المنصب في شمال البلاد، تعرضت سيارتها لهجوم بقنبلة حارقة.
وأضافت الصحيفة أن الشرطة تحقق في الحادث الذي وقع في الساعة 1.30 من صباح أمس (الثلاثاء) ولم يسفر عن وقوع ضحايا.
وأكدت شرطة «مانشستر الكبرى» أنها تحقق في الحادث، وقال متحدث إنه جرى استدعاء أفراد الشرطة قبل الساعة 1:30 صباحاً بعد الإبلاغ عن حريق في سيارة، وثبت أن السيارة أحرقت عمداً، مما تسبب أيضاً في أضرار طفيفة لممتلكات مجاورة. وأضاف: «الحريق تم اخماده، ولم يصب أحد، ويجري التحقيق في ملابساته».

Police are investigating firebomb attack on council leader
Politicians have expressed their shock after the leader of Oldham Council was targeted in a firebomb attack on her car.
Arooj Shah, who became the first Muslim woman council leader in May, was targeted in the cowardly and shocking attack in the early hours of this morning, July 13.
Emergency services were alerted, just before 1.30am after hearing the vehicle had been set on fire in Oldham.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the terrifying attack. A number of politicians have expressed support for Councillor Shah.
Howard Sykes, leader of the Liberal Democrats at the council, called for all decent people to stand up for the values of this country .
