Big Spring man arrested for murder of infant son
BIG SPRING A man was arrested Tuesday evening on a charge of murder in connection with the death of his infant son, the Big Spring Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.
According to the release, at approximately 9:41 p.m. Tuesday, Big Spring police officers were dispatched to Scenic Mountain Medical Center in reference to the unattended death of a 4-month-old boy.
Officers were told that the child s father, Jose Luis Varga Cruz, 22, had transported the child to the hospital from their home Cruz told hospital staff that the child had sustained head injuries after falling off a bed, the release said.
Eddie Martin Valencia is charged with involuntary manslaughter.Â
The incident happened on Saturday, Feb. 20, around 9 p.m. A press release from Fayette Police said the incident happened in the boy s home and involved a member of his family.Â
According to court documents, Valencia called police to report the incident, and officers arrived to find the son dead. Police said Valencia told them he was checking his weapon and dry fired the gun when it went off. Dry firing is when someone pulls the trigger on a gun with no ammunition in the chamber.
When the gun went off, Valencia saw his son had been hit and called 911.
Arrests
Friday, 2:58 a.m., deputies arrested April Dawn Sadler, 32, 400 block of North Indiana Avenue, in the 800 block of North 500 East, on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
Friday, 4:50 p.m., deputies arrested Angela Lynn Breedlove, 49, 500 block of Magnolia Drive, at the Howard County Jail on a warrant for failure to appear.
Saturday, 4:10 a.m., deputies arrested Donald Leland Hoover, 39, Greentown, in the area of Indiana 22 and 300 East, on charges of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of .15 or more and operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a license, both misdemeanors.
Saturday, 10:03 p.m., deputies arrested Brian C. Hughes, 31, 300 block of Fawn Drive, in the area of 500 East and 00 North South, on a charge of marijuana cultivation, a misdemeanor.
