Car thief strips while fleeing Santa Barbara County deputies

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies caught a suspect who ran from law enforcement Tuesday morning and stripped off much of his clothing after allegedly stealing a vehicle.
Shortly after 7 a.m., a 911 caller reported a disturbance at a gas station at Hollister Avenue and Walnut Lane near Goleta. As deputies were on their way to the scene, Jeremiah Scofield, 33, stole a white flatbed Ford truck and drove toward Hollister Avenue and Turnpike Road, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Within 10 minutes, deputies located the truck in the 4700 block of Ashdale Street. Scofield had already fled by foot.
Deputies conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate the suspects.
The investigation has been assigned to detectives who are conducting follow-up on the case. Detectives are searching for two suspects, but have not yet released a physical description of the suspects or the weapon used.

A suspected hit-and-run driver was pursued by deputies in a high-speed chase from Goleta to Santa Barbara Wednesday afternoon before being detained, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident began at about 2:20 p.m. with a non-injury collision at Hollister Avenue and Storke Road, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.

Four people were arrested Thursday when authorities served search warrants connected to a double shooting near Goleta, and at least two allegedly are directly connected with the homicides, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Department.
