Holyoke Soldiers’ Home veteran dies at local hospital after positive COVID test

HOLYOKE A Holyoke Soldiers’ Home veteran who has lived in a skilled nursing unit at Holyoke Medical Center since April died last week after testing positive for the new coronavirus earlier this month, state officials said Tuesday.
The man died Dec. 16, marking the first COVID-related death of a Soldiers’ Home veteran since June. The virus stormed through the state-run facility in the spring, and 76 veterans who tested positive died between March 25 and June 12.
A number of residents who tested negative for the virus were moved to Holyoke Medical Center in early April as state officials tried to quell the outbreak.

A resident of the Holyoke Soldiers Home who had lived at an off-site skilled nursing facility since April died last week after testing positive for the coronavirus earlier this month, state officials said.
The man died at Holyoke Medical Center on Dec. 16, marking the first COVID-19-related death of veteran who had lived at the home since June, Masslive.com reported Tuesday.
