Most animals are generally pretty apolitical. They don’t vote, they don’t storm the Capitol, and, unlike Roger Stone, they certainly don’t get tattoos of political figures on their backs. Not on porpoise (meant to do it), anyway. But a manatee, famously the most apolitical of all the sea creatures, has been found off the coast of Florida with, for some reason or another, Donald Trump’s name etched in the algae on its back.
After "TRUMP" was apparently scraped in the algae on the back of a manatee, officials are pointing out that the issue is not political. It's harassment that can harm the animal.
Goal: Apprehend culprit who disfigured a manatee for political purposes.
Not even wild animals can escape the toxic political atmosphere in the United States. Officials are investigating a case involving a manatee with distinctly man-made marking. Someone had maimed the animal by writing the word “Trump” on his back.
This particular manatee appears to be a fixture of the Homosassa River in Florida. While the manatee population as a whole has become endangered by habitat destruction and boating, this poor animal was victimized for someone’s sick political statement. The stunt could result in federal charges once the perpetrator is identified.
