Ratcliff named new JFS director

Jeremy Ratcliff, former director of the Highland County Probation Department, has been given the nod to lead the Highland County Job & Family Services office as its new director.
The announcement was made by the Highland County commissioners, who met in special executive session Friday morning as commissioner David Daniels put forth the motion, which was seconded by vice president Terry Britton, to hire Ratcliff, current director of court treatment at the Talbert House in Cincinnati.
According to information supplied by the commissioners office, Ratcliff is a Wilmington College and Western Governors University graduate, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in social and political studies/criminal justice from Wilmington College before going on to achieve a Master of Science Management and Leadership degree from WGU’s College of Business in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Britton: ‘Almost a disgrace’

Brad Wenstrup, initially offered assistance to the Highland County commissioners Wednesday in the close-out of the cancelled Rocky Fork Lake improvement grant, but the discussion soon turned to employers unable to hire workers who she said were enjoying generous unemployment benefits.

Assisting with the “closing out” of the cancelled Rocky Fork Lake development grant was the intended purpose of Teresa Lewis’ visit with the Highland County Board of Commissioners Wednesday, but the discussion soon turned to the problem of what commission vice president Terry Britton referred to as “almost a disgrace” concerning unemployment benefits.

Talking solar in Lynchburg

A grass roots organization calling itself Clinton County/Highland County Citizens Concerned About Solar Farms is having an informational meeting Tuesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Lynchburg Fire Department, located at 8123 S.R. 135 in Lynchburg.
On its Facebook page, the group states that it has 611 members.
State Rep. and Lynchburg native Shane Wilkin (R-Dist. 91) told The Times-Gazette that he will be in attendance at the meeting “with open eyes and an open mind” as to what concerns some of his constituents may have concerning the proliferation of solar panel farms around his home town.
