F-16 Fighter Jet Pilot Killed in Upper Peninsula Crash Identified

The Wisconsin Air National Guard says the investigation into what caused an F-16 fighter jet to crash in the Upper Peninsula earlier this week could take at least a year.
After a multistate search, the guard’s 115th Fighter Wing announced the death of the pilot, Captain Durwood “Hawk” Jones from New Mexico.
Captain Jones joined the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 2011.
He’s a decorated combat veteran, with several deployments.
He was awarded two medals for being exposed to hostile action or under significant risk of hostile action.

Jones was partaking in a routine training mission when his plane went down in the remote Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan
He was a 37-year-old native of New Mexico who was married and had two young children

The Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing announced the death Thursday.
The pilot’s identity will not be released until 24 hours after family is notified.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
Military officials say the plane went down in the Hiawatha National Forest in Delta County Tuesday night.
