A Polk County man was arrested Tuesday after investigators say he made threatening comments on Facebook about carrying out violence in Washington, D.C. Shannon Badgett, 53, of Haines City, was charged with communicating a written threat to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism. The Haines City Police Department said Badgett took issue with the outcome of the 2020 presidential election and posted about going to a "target rich environment".

A Haines City woman faces multiple charges after she drove head on into a vehicle, causing an unrestrained child to be injured on Monday morning, Haines City police said.
Taquire Studimire, 34, faces charges of child abuse, tampering, reckless driving, hit and run and resisting arrest without violence.
Police said Studimire drove her 2008 Honda Civic into the front of a garbage truck in the area of North 14th Street and Stuart Avenue before 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
Video recordings from the truck’s dash camera showed the child sitting unrestrained in the front and being thrown into the dash as the vehicles made contact. Studimire is then seen grabbing the child from the floorboard and immediately exiting the vehicle to confront the truck driver, police said.

HAINES CITY, Fla. The Haines City Police Department says a woman has turned herself in after she was involved in a crash that left a child in her car hurt.
Officers say Taquire Studimire, 34, drove her 2008 Honda Civic into the front of a garbage truck.
The garbage truck driver said he tried to honk his horn at her to avoid the crash, according to police.
After the crash, video from the garbage truck s dash camera showed Studimire pull the child up from the floorboard of her car, officers said. Police said Studimire didn t check on the child after the crash.
