Sub-tropic cool: Even pagoda roofs in Fansipan are covered in a light covering of snow. Vietnam News/ANN FANSIPAN Mountain in Lao Cai province has been blanketed in snow over the last few days as temperatures plummeted in the north of Vietnam. Up to 50cm of snow fell from Feb 8 to 9 on top of Fansipan Mountain in Sa Pa town. According to Weather.com, over the next five days the temperature will range between -6 to 4ºC, with a possibility of daily snowfall. The snowy weather is expected to last until Monday. The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said: “The sight of snow this thick is quite rare in Vietnam. When the temperature near the ground is below 0ºC, the ice crystals in the cloud combine to form snowflakes and those heavy enough will fall.

Two flights from Ho Chi Minh City, VN248 and VN7246, will land at Cat Bi Airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong. Two others from HCM City, VN7206 and VN320, are to be diverted to the central city of Da Nang, while another from Buon Ma Thuot is to land at Tho Xuan Airport in central Thanh Hoa province.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a strengthened cold front has approached several mountainous locales of northern Vietnam. As a result, temperatures in the area have nosedived and are forecast to sink even more on Sunday night. By 6:00 am on Sunday, Dong Van Town in northern Ha Giang Province had logged temperature of seven degrees Celsius, while Mount Mau Son in Lang Son Province recorded 9.2 degrees and Lao Cai’s Sa Pa Town saw 7.3 degrees.

VIETNAM NEWS JANUARY 16  16/01/2021    10:31 GMT+7 African swine fever vaccine to be available in Q3 Vietnam plans to produce and commercialise a vaccine against African swine fever in the third quarter of 2021, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien during a press conference in Hanoi on January 14. Tien said the vaccine trials have produced positive results. According to him, the vaccine is expected to ensure not only the supply of food from livestock farming but also livelihoods of 2.5 million breeding households. Vietnam is targeting more than 90 percent of its communes and wards being free of African swine fever by 2022 and all by 2025.
