THE need for emergency food parcels for children went up by 18 per cent in Worcester for the year ending March 2021. The Trussell Trust, an anti-poverty charity that supports a network of food banks across the UK, revealed 3,698 emergency food parcels had been distributed to children in the city, up from 3,127 the year before. The number was also up for adults too with Worcester s figure increasing to 9,234 parcels dished out by the trust overall having been at 8,204 the year before. The statistics were revealed as part of a call out to children in Worcester to pen a short poem about hunger and what it means to them.
