Biden, or rather Hady Amr, his point man on the conflict, an anti-Israel bundler to his campaign, is pushing to open a consulate to the PLO in Jerusalem. Secretary of State Blinken and assorted State Department people insist that the United States needs a direct line to the Palestinian Authority. But there s no reason for that direct line to be in Jerusalem. The PLO s capital is in Ramallah. The 19th century former Christian city taken over by Muslims serves as the capital of the Palestinian Authority. That s where Mahmoud Abbas, the PA s leader, who just canceled the latest set of elections, lives. That s where its government is located.

(JNS) U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, where he promised him that the United States would reopen the Jerusalem consulate for the Palestinians.
“As I told both Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu and President Abbas, the United States will go forward with the reopening of its consulate in Jerusalem. This is an important step,” said Blinken. “That’s an important way for our country to engage with and provide support to the Palestinian people.”
The U.S. consulate in Jerusalem was merged with the U.S. embassy when it relocated to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv in May 2018. It now operates as the Palestinian Affairs Unit within the embassy.
