Ten arrested as part of road safety operation - Reading TEN PEOPLE have been arrested and 15 cars have been seized following a police operation in Reading, targeting drivers suspected of being impaired by drink or drugs. The joint operation, combining forces from Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit and Reading Local Policing Area, took place across the town s main roads. These included Basingstoke Road A33, Bath Road, Oxford Road, and London Road during a six-hour operation on Friday, February 26. Sergeant Edward Crofts, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “The focus of our operation was to carry out high visibility road traffic enforcement across the town on a number of key roads.
A taxi driver who made racist and intimidating remarks to a passenger before threatening to throw her out of his car has lost his licence. The unnamed man’s disqualification came after Sandwell’s licensing committee said his behaviour showed he wasn’t ‘a fit and proper person’ to hold a dual private hire and Hackney Carriage permit. Minutes of its November meeting show the passenger had alleged the driver had been intimidating and made racial comments during a pre-booked journey. She also claimed at one point he said he threatened to drop her off in an area she didn’t know.
